Planning
Planning is an area that takes up a lot of the Parish Council’s consideration and time and it is certainly the area of responsibility that normally generates most interest/comment from members of the Public.
NLPC does not have the power to decide any planning application within the Parish—that responsibility lies with Warwick District Council (WDC). WDC do however formally consult with NLPC on all planning applications within the Parish, to ensure that the views of the local community are taken into account.
Planning FAQs
Where can I find a list of planning applications?
All current planning applications within Norton Lindsey Parish are published on the Warwick District Council Planning Portal.
Applications within Wolverton, and Claverdon Parishes are published on the Stratford District Council Planning Portal.
Does NLPC determine applications?
No, all planning decisions are taken by Warwick District Council.
NLPC’s role in the process is to reflect local community opinion – with that opinion determined by the NLPC Councillors.
Under current rules if a parish council in Warwick District OBJECTS or SUPPORTS an application and the planning team have an opposite view, then the application must be referred to the full Warwick District Planning Committee for determination.
The majority of planning applications are met with a NEUTRAL response from NLPC (often submitted with observations for the aid of the planning team).
Can NLPC object to an application because they don’t like it?
All planning decisions are made within a complex legal framework—any comments or objections NLPC makes to WDC must have a sound basis in planning law.
NLPC cannot simply object to something because we don’t ‘like it’, rather it must ensure that the objection is based on a valid planning ground.
We particularly try to ensure that any ‘rules’ being applied by WDC are done so consistently across applications in order to ensure all residents are treated ‘fairly’.
Who should I tell me comments to?
NLPC always suggests that members of the public comment directly on any application they are concerned about in addition to making their views known to NLPC.
You can find planning applications on the Warwick District Council Planning Portal.
